Rust Clay Plate
These beautiful plates are made by a family of artisans in Pueblo Nuevo, Oaxaca, Mexico, where potters continue to embrace the traditional coiling technique, shaping each piece by hand without a wheel. To achieve the distinctive speckled texture known as "salpicado," they first polish the clay and then delicately spray it with a natural tannin extracted from tree bark, resulting in a mesmerizing dark luster. This process requires two firings to reach completion.
