Pulp Vessel, Kudala

Molded by hand using waste paper pulp and dried under the Southern African sun, this sculpture-like paper mache vessel carries the spirit of minimalist modern design while nodding to its origins in traditional African art. It is lightweight, food safe, water resistant, and safe to use around small children and pets as the material does not break into sharp pieces.

The rich, reddish-brown hue of the pulp vessels derives naturally from the indigenous red ochre, Libovu, discovered within the earth of Eswatini. Libovu holds profound cultural importance in the nation, serving as a cherished element in traditional wedding ceremonies and doubling as a natural sunblock in the African heat.

Due to the handmade nature, each piece varies slightly and has its own beauty.
