One of the leading designers in Japan, Shigeru Uchida (内田繁, 1943-2016) had his entire career centered on finding the balance between modern design principles and traditional Japanese culture. His major works include a series of boutiques for Yohji Yamamoto, the Hotel Il Palazzo in Fukuoka, the Kobe Fashion Museum, and the tea rooms 'Ji-an'(受庵), 'So-an'(想庵), 'Gyo-an'(行庵). The Paper Moon Lanterns are designed by Uchida and produced by Asano in the Gifu prefecture of Japan, where artisans have been crafting exquisite paper lanterns for more than 90 years.
