A CELEBRATION OF COLORS

Colors arrive in spring, and saturate through summer. In this spring/summer issue, we listen to the stories behind three artisanal brands that have mastered harnessing colors into their process. Just as new life awakens from a period of dormant, wintry stillness, the knowledge of forgotten crafts and techniques have revived thanks to Injiri, Middle Kingdom, and Indego Africa. The ways they use color are utterly modern, and yet their works stay true to their respective cultural roots. The quest for authenticity and novelty is satisfied in tandem.

Starting from this issue, we are transforming T H E R E from a quarterly to a biannual magazine. This new rhythm will allow us to put together more thoughtful content from global sources, and expand our coverage from artisan communities to other realms of art and culture. As our first step in this direction, we've curated a list of the best summer exhibitions in 10 cities around the world - for after all, summer is the best time to encounter and explore.
